Antique french double handled jug

Antique french double handled jug

Origin 1800's, France

Originally used for wine or cider, these pots were made to transport the liquids. The bottom half is unglazed as it was kept in the ground to keep the liquids cool. The large handles are to allow attachment to ropes for transporting.

Little attention was given to the glaze as it was used for utilitarian, rather then ornamental purposes. This has created a now interesting drip glaze down the pot and different depths in colour.

Condition This item is very old and shows signs of ware and tear. But no major cracks or breaks.
