Terracotta vessel

Terracotta vessel

Origin mid 1900's, Portugal

A Portuguese cooking pot, glazed on the inside to keep liquids from evaporating though the porous terracotta, helping to keep the contents hot. These kinds for cooking pots would have been used directly on the fire, hence the slightly chard patina. This is a very basic and common cooking utensil that would have been used all over the country.
